Growing Kids

Since I use this as my kids baby books in a lot of ways I wanted to take a few minutes and write down stories that are too funny to forget!

Potty Training.
Potty Training Bigs has been quite the experience! Bigs has spent A LOT of time naked. Not only would he prefer to be naked at all times but sometimes it is easier for him to remember to go to the potty that way. This has been a really long winter and the kids have gotten use to getting their coats, hats and boots on before leaving the house. Since we have been in the house more because of the weather John has found time to become very mischievous! So one morning he put on his coat, hat and boots and headed outside, as I started to stop him I gave up and let him and Rally head into the back yard to play for a couple of minutes. Before I knew it they were both running inside so happy and yelling. John came running through the door, "Mommy Mommy I poopy in the grass like Rally!" My child got himself dressed in warm clothes (minus the pants) to go into the yard and use the bathroom with the dog.

Yes Ma'am and Yes Sir
In the South it is very important to make sure your children understand when to say ma'am and sir. Currently it is used more when they are in trouble or I am waiting for a response to a specific question. We also watch a lot of princess TV and movies (poor Bigs I know) so I was not too shocked when all of the titles got mixed up! One afternoon the kids were playing in Lilly's room when it was time to start cleaning up before bath time. I walked in and had to get a little stern with them to get serious about picking up, Bigs looked right at me and said "Yes your Majesty Sir." They both say it now. I don't think I am going to correct them. :)

The Lord
The kids have spent a lot of time at Immanuel Baptist church over the last year, one difference between the baptist church and the catholic church that a child would notice is the crucifix. In every catholic church I have been in there is a large crucifix behind the altar for all to see, this is not the case in the baptist church. When we were in South Bend for Christmas we of course took the kids to Catholic Mass on Christmas Eve. Lilly didn't say anything about it until one day while going to dance class we passed a church that had the crucifix in front of the church and Lilly shouts "Look Mom that is where the Lord it," totally shocked I said "what do you mean Lilly," she responded "You know like when we went to church with MiMi, her church is where the Lord is." I guess the Baptist church has Jesus in her eyes and the Catholic church has the Lord, who knew?! haha

Bad Choices
John has really become very "active" as moms like to call their children who can't seem to stay out of trouble. :) We talk a lot about how he makes the choice to get into trouble, and he is often asked if that was a good choice or a bad choice. Whenever I am picking the kids up from Mothers day out I go to Johns room first then he runs down to Lilly's room and gets her. One day I was still talking to his teachers while he was in Lilly's room. Lilly wanted to introduce him to her friends so she said "This is my favorite brother, his name is Biggie." Then she nonchalantly looks at her teacher and says "He makes a lot of bad choices." Well I always tell her not to lie! haha

Puppet Show
My kids have the best imaginations! Listening to them play is hilarious, I don't know where they come up with half the stories they tell each other. One of their favorite things to do is to put socks on their hands and do a puppet show with each other. Lilly is convinced that every day is the day before her birthday. One week she was on a kick that she was going to do a princess puppet show for her birthday. We talked about puppets and puppet shows all day long! One day after mothers day out I get a call from one of the moms telling me that her daughter is really excited to come over for a princess puppet show! Apparently Lilly had invited all of her friends and told them in great detail how the puppet show was going happen and how everyone needed to come over, just have your mom call mine. This child! haha

Best Friends
We talk a lot about how God gave the kids each other so they would always have a best friend with them and how they shouldn't fight because they are gifts in each others lives. I guess we talk don't talk enough about strangers or someone being a good friend. Everywhere we go the kids meet new "best friends." The other day at Wye Mountain Bigs had a fit because he "HAD to go say hello to his best friend." His best friend was a child who we have never seen before and was getting his picture taken by his mother. He is also convinced that he has best friends that live next store to MiMi and Dzia Dzia, he has never met these kids either but heard them one day when we were there and convinced my dad they were his best friends. And they both still talk about his best friends in Birmingham. At the gym last week there was only one other child in the play gym when I dropped the kids off. This little girl is Lilly's best friend, we don't know her name but we saw her at panera for lunch the same day and Lilly tried to leave with her. They do have big hearts! haha
